As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner

I really couldn’t get into this book. I really did try, but I just couldn’t feel anything for this book.

The basic story is thus: Addie Bundren dies and her last wish is to be buried in her native Jefferson. The book tells the story of the family’s journey to fulfil the last wish. It has several points of view chapter to chapter. But I am not a big fan of this stream of consciousness literary technique. I feel that I am a bit of a heratic not being into this book. It is good that it has lots of viewpoints, and it is descriptive but I really couldn’t get into it.

Maybe one day I’ll come back and read it properly. I may even come to appreciate it a bit more. In researching this book I saw that there is a film coming out based on the book. Maybe I’ll go and see it if it comes out over here but I only read it in the first place because it was on my ‘Greatest Books’ reading list.

MY RATING: 1 / 5.
