Ice Cold in Alex by Christopher Landon

‘They served it ice-cold in Alex…,’

Book about the fall of Tobruk and the journey of an army ambulance as they escape the advancing German army. They all long for a tall, dewy glass of Rheingold beer.

Landon based the book on his WW2 experiences so he obviously knew what he was talking about. Nothing much ‘happens’ but it’s very vivid nonetheless. There is a 1959 movie of the same name, but in the latter they somehow forge romance between Anson and Diana (in the book she falls for Tom).

A good book. I felt very sad when the story was over.

MY RATING: *** / *****
